ORIGIN DATA:

This variety originates from the Amalfi Coast (Italy), where it is cultivated given the high quality of its juice and essential oils. The Elongated (sfusato) Amalfi lemon owes its name to the elongated shape of its fruit, as opposed to the other protected variety of the area, the Oval of Sorrento. It is used for the preparation of the drink known as Limoncello.

TREE AND FRUIT DESCRIPTION:

Vigorous tree, with rounded growth tendency and dense foliage. Large, opposite leaves with short internodes. Fruits of medium-large size, oval and elongated, with mamelon in the apical zone and short neck with grooves. The rind is slightly rough, thick, very aromatic and lemon yellow when ripe. Juicy pulp, very acidic and refreshing. Seeds are present.

USES:

As with other Amalfi lemons, various dishes are prepared using its different parts. There is a traditional lemon salad made with lemon pieces, garlic, oil, pepper, salt and mint. Its rind, very rich in essential oils, is used for the production of lemon liqueurs and creams. Its juice is used as a condiment for many dishes.
