ORIGIN DATA:
The Monachello variety is characterized by its robustness, being very resistant to diseases. It is typical of Sicily (Italy), where it is grown wherever the mal secco disease affects less resistant lemon cultivars.
TREE AND FRUIT DESCRIPTION:
The tree is not very vigorous, of slow growth and circular habit with branches that tend to hang. Large, abundant leaves and thick foliage. Medium sized fruit, elliptical in shape, with apical mamelon and basal neck, not very apparent. Yellow rind, somewhat bulging, insinuating vertical ribs of mild aroma, but with large embedded oil glands. Edible albedo, of medium thickness, tasty, as it contains fine ramifications of the oil glands from the rind. Pale yellow flesh, juicy and acidic. Seedless.
USES:
It can be used for seasoning, both with the rind and the juice. Its albedo can be used fresh or in preparations such as puree, mousse…
