Sweet Oranges

Spain

December – February

ORIGIN DATA:

Variety characterized by the brown color of the rind in ripe fruits, hence its name, being otherwise the same as other oranges of the Navel group. No precise data are available on its origin, although it is a mutation that was identified about 10 years ago in the region of Valencia (Spain). Initially it was considered that the appearance of the fruit did not allow its commercialization, but an important marketing campaign linked to the denomination “Chocolate” has helped to implant this variety in the market, a fact favored by being very easy to differentiate.

TREE AND FRUIT DESCRIPTION:

Vigorous and leafy tree, with large leaves and slightly winged petiole. Medium-large fruits, which can grow in clusters. Greenish-brown rind, sometimes with orange iridescence or sectors. Orange flesh, very juicy, sweet and with an acid hint, that gives it freshness. Seedless.

USES:

Perfect variety for fresh consumption or for making homemade juices.
