ORIGIN DATA:
Despite its name, this variety seems to be originally from India. When introduced into the USA, it did so under the name “Baboon Lemon”. Its most notable characteristic is the fragrance of its fruits, a consequence of its complex genetic composition (50% pummelo, 38% citron and 12% papeda).
TREE AND FRUIT DESCRIPTION:
Vigorous tree with a tendency to open bearing. Leafy, with large, green dark leaves. Fruits of medium-large size and oval shape, with persistent style. Thick, smooth rind, with sunken oil glands and bright yellow color when fully ripe. Very aromatic, with soapy fragrances, similar to bergamot. Pale, acid, fragrant, medium juicy pulp. It has numerous seeds.
USES:
Its rind, grated or whole, adds a characteristic citrus aroma to foods and beverages. The juice is a good lemon alternative to season soups and salads.
