ORIGIN DATA:
The Chandler cultivar is the result of a breeding program carried out in California (USA), consisting of the controlled hybridization of two Thai pummelos, the Siamese (acid-free pummelo) and the Siamese Pink (acid-pigmented pummelo). Its commercialization began in 1961.
TREE AND FRUIT DESCRIPTION:
Vigorous and productive tree, leafy and open bearing. Rounded fruit, medium size among the pummelos (average weight around 1 kg). Smooth, thin rind, yellow when ripe. Thick, pinkish albedo. Pink to red flesh, depending on growing conditions, not very juicy, sweeter than other pummelos, more acidic and less bitter. The juice vesicles are fine and tender. It has numerous seeds, absent without cross-pollination.
USES:
Its fresh consumption includes the combination in green or fruit salads.
